Winter in Seefeld at the Hotel Karwendelhof
Austria in the winter tends to be pigeonholed as a destination for downhill skiers. And, to be sure, Seefeld has an excellent snow record and some good family skiing areas. But what really attracts people to Seefeld is the amount of other winter activities that take place here: cross-country skiing, winter walking, tobogganing, ice-skating, sightseeing and much more.
Downhill Skiing
Seefeld has its own beginner skiing area - the Geigenbühel - located in the centre of the resort and only a few minutes' walk from the Hotel Karwendelhof. The Rosshütte and Gschwandtkopf ski areas on the edge of the village are reached via the convenient ski bus services, and again, the bus stops are only a few minutes' away.
Cross-country Skiing
Seefeld is renowned as one of the best destinations in Europe for this sport, which allows participants time to appreciate the natural beauty of their surroundings. The main ski school in the village has its own specialist cross-country skiing section for those who are wanting to try the sport for the first time.
The cross-country skiing trails leave from all sides of the village. The nearest trails are located at the end of the same road where the Hotel Karwendelhof is located, while the plateau buses and trains to the areas around Leautasch and Scharnitz leave at regular intervals.
Winter Walking
The fact that you can walk for kilometres and kilometres on cleared walking trails in the winter is perhaps one of Seefeld's best-kept secrets. You don't need any special equipment apart from good walking shoes or boots and warm clothing. And if you do want something a little more strenuous, then guided snowshoe walks area also available in the resort.
